Haematococcus pluvialis is a kind of fresh water single-celled green algae, which belongs to the phyla, group algae, family Rhodophyllaceae and genus Rhodophyllum. The extract of Haematococcus pluvialis is bright red and has strong pigment deposition ability. As a functional pigment, fish and poultry are much more efficient than other Carotenoid, such as horseradish, lutein and zeaxanthin, in absorbing and accumulating Haematococcus pluvialis extracts. The alga can accumulate astaxanthin in a large amount and turn red, so it is called Haematococcus pluvialis, also known as Haematococcus pluvialis.

It is the most abundant astaxanthin in nature, its astaxanthin content can reach 3.0% of dry weight, or even higher, known as the natural astaxanthin“Concentrate”, it is considered to be the best biological source of natural astaxanthin. When Haematococcus pluvialis grows in a harsh environment, such as when the ph and temperature become too low for it to grow, it stops reproducing and starts producing astaxanthin in large quantities, to get through this tough phase, when the cells turn red.
