Introduction of Rhubarb Powder
Chicken Claw Rhubarb (scientific name: Rheum tanguticum Maxim. ex Regel) is a genus of rhubarb in the Polygonaceae family, a tall herb, 1.5-2 m tall, with stout, yellow roots and rhizomes. It is distributed in Gansu, Qinghai and the border area between Qinghai and Tibet in China. It grows in alpine gorges at 1600-3000 m above sea level.
The rhizomes and roots of this species are used for medicinal purposes. It is mainly used for medicinal purposes, but can also be used for flowering, leafing, and fruiting.
The rhizomes and roots of this species are used for medicinal purposes. Bitter in taste and cold in nature. It has the functions of diarrhea of fire and constipation, breaking up stagnation and moving blood stasis. It is used for constipation with real heat, delirium and frenzy, abdominal pain with fullness of food, diarrhea and dysentery with urgency, headache, red eyes, swollen and painful gums, sores of the mouth and tongue, vomiting blood, epistaxis, stasis of menstruation, postpartum stasis, jaundice, edema, pyorrhea, bruises, carbuncle and sores, and water and fire burns.
Modern research shows that the main chemical constituents in rhubarb include anthraquinones, anthrone, stilbene, phenylbutazone, chromogenic ketones, tannins, polysaccharides and so on. The laxative active ingredients of rhubarb are mainly anthraquinones and their derivatives, among which, the combined anthraquinones (such as sennoside A) have stronger laxative effect. The mechanism is to increase intestinal tone, accelerate intestinal peristalsis, stimulate intestinal mucosa, promote the secretion of water and electrolytes into the lumen of the colon, and thus promote defecation. Free anthraquinone is easily absorbed by the small intestine and cannot reach the large intestine, but it can increase water in the intestinal lumen by inhibiting sodium, potassium-ATPase (Na+, K+-ATPase), thus promoting peristalsis and defecation; while the glycosides in bound anthraquinone can protect glycosides from hydrolysis and oxidation in the small intestine and play an important role in stimulating the intestine and inducing diarrhea.
