L-Theanine, naturally occurring in green tea. Theanine (L-Theanine) is a free amino acid unique to tea, theanine is glutamic acid γ-ethyl amide, with a sweet odor. Theanine content varies according to the variety and part of the tea.
There are 26 kinds of amino acids identified in tea (6 kinds of non-protein amino acids), and theanine accounts for more than 50% of the total free amino acids in tea. Tea contains 26 kinds of amino acids, 20 of which are protein-related amino acids, which we call protein amino acids, and 6 kinds of amino acids that have nothing to do with protein synthesis, which we call non-protein amino acids.
