Introduction Of Artichoke Extarct
Artichoke [Cynara cardunculus L. var. scolymus (L.) Fiori] is a perennial herbaceous plant of the genus Artichoke in the family Asteraceae, grown mainly in the Mediterranean region, first in the Roman area. The edible part is the inner bracts and receptacle, and the inedible industrial by-product part includes its outer bracts and stems and leaves, accounting for about 80% of the fresh weight of the whole plant. However, studies on the functional active constituents of artichoke have revealed that the inedible parts, especially the leaves, contain a considerable amount of functional substances.
Various types of beneficial compounds such as polyphenols, flavonoids, chlorogenic acids, anthocyanins, terpenoids, and artichoke acids were identified from artichoke leaves, and artichoke acid was measured to be the most abundant component of artichoke juice.
Function Of Artichoke Extarct
Artichoke extract is used to treat digestive disorders including abdominal pain, bloating and nausea. Modern medical research points out that the mechanism of artichoke extract in treating indigestion is that it promotes the secretion of bile. This means that artichoke extract can be used as a treatment for digestive disorders associated with insufficient bile secretion resulting in fat malabsorption. No side effects of artichoke extract were observed in the study.
The most prominent aspect of artichoke extract is its protective and restorative effect on the liver. Artichoke extract has choleretic, hepatoprotective and cholesterol-lowering effects. It is clinically used to treat various diseases caused by liver insufficiency. It can enhance the bile to reduce fat, liver detoxification, prevention of fatty liver; can effectively inhibit the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, reduce cholesterol; have liver protection effect, can repair damaged liver cells.
